This includes tracking production costs, analyzing financial data, and providing insights to support decision-making within the manufacturing process.
This role involves close collaboration with various departments within the organization, including production, procurement, and supply chain.
Additional responsibilities include general accounting processes within the AP and AR cycles as well as month end closing.
Responsibilities include:
Cost Accounting Monitor and manage the cost structure of the manufacturing process, including direct and indirect costs.
Calculate, monitor, and maintain product costs, incorporating materials, labor, and overhead expense.
Maintain item master, bills of material, and routers for all product lines.
Identify and analyze variances in production costs and recommend cost-saving measures.
Inventory Management Maintain accurate records of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory.
Perform regular inventory reconciliations and assess inventory turnover rates.
Manage and conduct regular cycle counting activities, analyzing variances, and reporting on root causes.
Financial Transactions Recording Ensure timely and accurate recording and classification of financial transactions related to manufacturing activities, such as inventory, production costs, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Financial Reporting Prepare financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, specific to the manufacturing process.
Generate reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the financial health of the manufacturing process.
Cost Analysis/Process Improvement Analyze variances in production costs and performance metrics to understand the factors affecting the manufacturing process.
Investigate and report on the reasons behind significant variances.
Provide recommendations to optimize operations and reduce costs.
Assist in evaluating the financial feasibility of new manufacturing projects or product lines.
General Accounting Process invoices from suppliers and vendors.
Match invoices with corresponding purchase orders and packing slips to ensure that products or services were received as ordered.
Maintain working relationships with suppliers and vendors, addressing payment inquiries and discrepancies promptly and professionally.
Assign appropriate account codes to invoices for proper accounting and reporting.
Assist with vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Monitor accounts payable aging to ensure timely payments and to effectively manage cash flow.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all account payable transactions.
Perform month and year end closing activities.
Prepare journal entries and review ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
Reconcile accounts, bank statements, and intercompany accounts.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies or issues.
ERP Systems and Software Proficiently use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for recording and reporting financial data.
Recommend improvements to ERP systems for better financial management.
Become subject matter expert for ERP modules affecting production and inventory activities.
Participate in system testing for maintenance, software upgrades or new implementations.
Monitor ERP data to identify incomplete or error transactions, report results to appropriate team member for completion or correction.
Monitor scheduled processes to ensure completion and accuracy.
Compliance & Other Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws.
Assist Controller with other duties related to month end closing, financial reporting, payables, receivables, and other functions as needed.
Job rhythm (timing of functions) are as follows:
Daily functions include:
review of production reporting; assist production manager with any inventory/production issues involving ERP; perform item and bill of material setups or review as needed.
Assist Controller with other accounting or process improvement projects.
Weekly functions include:
perform and review cycle counts including root cause analysis; run and review data exception reports and take necessary action to resolve; prepare weekly reports as defined by Controller and Plant Management.
Monthly functions include:
reviewing ERP data for incomplete transactions; review with appropriate personnel and ensure completion.
Assist Controller in month end closing preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.
Prepare monthly inventory and cogs reports.
Annual functions include:
Conduct year-end physical inventory.
Assist Controller with year-end closing functions and audit schedules as assigned.
Prepare annual freeport tax exemption and property rendition reports.
Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited four-year undergraduate college or university.
Professional certification, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), preferred.
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, especially related to manufacturing accounting.
At least 5 years of practical work experience as accountant for a manufacturer, preferably in a Cost Accounting role.
Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Understanding of tax regulations and compliance.
Willingness to work flexible hours, as needed.
Ability to perform essentially all of the job from candidate's home.
(This is a hybrid position, allowing a portion of the workweek to be performed from home).
Ability to travel to home office in Seguin 2-3 days of the week to perform job duties.
Follows the directions of his/her supervisors.
